Important Update: Fitness to Participate in Extreme Sports Certificates

Posted on:

We would like to inform patients that Lancaster Medical Practice is unable to provide certificates confirming fitness to participate in extreme sports (i.e. Scuba diving, sky diving, marathon).

Why?

Fitness to Participate in Extreme Sports certificates fall outside the scope of General Practitioners’ NHS terms and conditions. This means our doctors do not have the medical indemnity to carry out this type of work, as it is not covered by the clinical negligence scheme for NHS Trusts or General Practice.

What Should You Do?

If you require a Fitness to Participate in Extreme Sports certificate, we advise you to contact a Private Medical Provider who can issue the appropriate documentation.

Accessing Your Medical Records:

If a private provider or extreme sports organization requires access to your medical history:

  • You can access your records via the NHS App.
  • If you need assistance with the NHS App, our reception team is happy to help.
  • If the NHS App is not an option, we can provide a summary of your medical records (with your consent) to support their decision.

Thank you for your understanding.
