LMP’s Assurance on Safe HRT Prescriptions Amid Recent Media Reports

We are aware of concerns expressed in the media of the risks of prescriptions of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) much higher than maximum licensed oestrogen doses.  Lancaster Medical Practice follows the British Menopause Society guidance on HRT prescribing and does not have women on the level of oestrogen being reported in the press.

In addition, LMP is currently reviewing all women on high dose oestrogen (i.e. those on 4 pumps or more of oestrogen gel or 100mcg or more of oestrogen patches) to ensure they are on the correct progesterone dose to ensure adequate protection of the womb lining.  It’s important to note that the media reports do not apply to patients on standard HRT doses (less than or equivalent to 4 pumps of oestrogen gel or 100mcg oestrogen patch).
